AFCAT

Indian Air Force conducts Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) for candidates to recruit them to Flying, Technical and Ground Duty Officer Branches. It came into existence in the year 2011.
 
Graduates in all streams including B.E, B.Tech, B.Sc, M.Com, CA, ICWA are eligible to apply  for AFCAT 2017.
 
AFCAT 01/2017 COURSES COMMENCING IN JANUARY 2018 - 
 
Flying Branch (203/18F/SSC/M &W ):- Graduates (Minimum three year degree course) in any discipline from a recognized University who have attained minimum 60% marks or equivalent and have passed Maths & Physics at 10+2 level or BE / B Tech  degree (Four year course) or cleared section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institute Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognised University with minimum 60% marks or  equivalent.
 
Age - 20 to 24 years as on 01  Jan 2018 i.e. Born  between 02 Jan 1994 to 01 Jan 1998. (Both Dates inclusive). Upper age limit  for Candidates holding  valid and current Commercial Pilot Licence issued by  DGCA (India) is relaxable  upto 26 years i.e. Born  between 02 Jan 1992 to  01 Jan 1998 (Both dates  inclusive).
 
Height - Minimum 162.5 cms,  Leg Length: Min - 99  cms, Max - 120 cms.  Thigh Length :  Max - 64 cms, Sitting  Height : Min - 81.5  cms. Max - 96 cms. 
 
Weight - Proportionate to the height and age.
 
 
Ground Duty (Technical) Branch 202/18T/PC/M, 202/18T/SSC/M &W :- 
 
Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics) {AE (L)}.:- Candidates with minimum 60% marks each in Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level and a minimum of four  year degree graduation/integrated post- graduation qualification in Engineering/ Technology from recognised University or cleared Sections A and B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers  (India) or Aeronautical Society of India or Graduate membership examination of the Institute of Electronics  and Telecommunication Engineers by actual studies with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent in the  following disciplines:-
 
(aa) Communication Engineering (ab) Computer Engineering/Technology (ac) Computer Engineering & Application (ad) Computer Science and Engineering/Technology (ae) Electrical and Computer Engineering  (af) Electrical and Electronics Engineering (ag) Electrical Engineering (ah) Electronics Engineering/ Technology (aj) Electronics Science and Engineering (ak) Electronics (al) Electronics and Communication  Engineering (am) Electronics and Computer Science (an) Electronics and/or Telecommunication Engineering  (ao) Electronics and/or Telecommunication Engineering (Microwave) (ap) Electronics and Computer  Engineering (aq) Electronics Communication and Instrumentation Engineering (ar) Electronics Instrument &  Control (as) Electronics Instrument & Control Engineering (at) Instrumentation & Control Engineering (au) Instrument & Control Engineering (av) Information Technology.
 
Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical) {AE (M)}. - Candidates with minimum 60% marks each in Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level and a minimum of four year degree graduation/integrated post-graduation qualification in Engineering/Technology from  recognised University or cleared Sections A and B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of 
Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India by actual studies with a minimum of 60% marks or  equivalent in the following disciplines:-
 
(aa) Aerospace Engineering (ab) Aeronautical Engineering (ac) Aircraft Maintenance Engineering  (ad) Mechanical Engineering (ae) Mechanical Engineering and Automation (af) Mechanical Engineering  (Production) (ag) Mechanical Engineering (Repair and Maintenance) (ah) Mechatronics (aj) Industrial  Engineering.
 
Ground Duty (Nontechnical) 202/18G/PC/M, 202/18G/ SSC/M &W -
 
Administration - Graduate Degree (Minimum three year degree course) in any discipline from a recognised university with 
60% marks or equivalent or cleared section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of 
Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognised university with a minimum of 60% marks 
or equivalent.
 
Logistics - Graduate Degree (Minimum three year degree course) in any discipline from a recognised university with 
60% marks or equivalent or cleared section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of 
Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognised university with a minimum of 60% marks 
or equivalent.
 
Accounts - B. Com. degree (Minimum three year degree course) from a recognised university with a minimum of 60% 
marks or equivalent.
 
Education - MBA / MCA or MA / M Sc degree in English / Physics / Mathematics / Chemistry / Statistics / International 
relations / International studies / Defence studies / Psychology / Computer Science / IT /Management / Mass 
Communication / Journalism / Public Relation with minimum of 50% marks in aggregate all paper put together 
in Post Graduation (Minimum two year programme) and 60% marks in graduation (both recognised by UGC / 
Competent Accreditation Authority).
 
Age - 20 to 26 years as on 01 Jan 2018 i.e. Born  between 02 Jan 1992 to 01  Jan 1998 (both dates  inclusive). 
 
Height - The minimum acceptable height for male candidates is 157.5  cms. For women candidates minimum  acceptable height is  152 cms.(For Gorkhas and individual  belonging to hills of  North-Eastern region of  India, Garhwali and  Kumaon, the minimu  acceptable height will  be 5 cms less. In case  of candidates from  Lakshadweep, the  minimum acceptable  height will be by 2 cms  less. Applicable to men  and women).
 
Weight - Proportionate to the  height and age.

Paper Pattern

AFCAT 2017  Pattern:-

The AFCAT will be of two hours duration and will contain multiple choice questions on verbal ability, numerical ability, reasoning,  general awareness and military aptitude. 
 
Engineering Knowledge Test (EKT) (applicable only for candidates  applying for technical branch) - EKT would be for 45 minutes and  conducted immediately after AFCAT.

AFCAT 2017 Preparation:- 

Practice solved papers that are available online and you can also buy solved papers from the market as well. During the exam solve the easy questions first so that you can find time to solve hard questions later. Try concentrating on the logics of concepts, rather memorizing the formulas and procedures. Develop your own methodologies to solve a problem.
