Combined Defense Services (CDS) examination is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for recruitment to the Indian Military Academy, Officers Training Academy, Naval Academy and Air Force Academy. Only candidates who are unmarried and have completed their graduation are eligible to sit for this exam. Successful candidates are admitted into the respective academies after an interview is conducted by the Services Selection Board (SSB).
 

Eligibility for CDS 2017:-

Nationality:-  A candidate must either be

a) A citizen of India
b) A subject of Bhutan
c) A subject of  Nepal
d) A Tibetan refugee who came over to India before January 01, 1962 with the of permanently settling in India'
e) A Person of Indian Origin (PIO) who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African Countries or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
 
Age Limit, Gender and Marital Status:- 
 
  • Indian Maritime Academy (IMA) :- Unmarried Male aspirants aged between 18 and 22 years are eligible to apply. 
  • Indian Naval Academy (INA):- Unmarried Male aspirants aged between 18 and 22 years of age are eligible to apply. 
  • Indian Airforce Academy (IAA):-Unmarried Male aspirants aged between 18 and 22 years of age are eligible to apply. 
  • For Officers Training Academy (SSC Course for Men):-  Unmarried/Married Male aspirants aged between 18 and 22 years of age are eligible to apply. 
  • For Officers Training Academy [ SSC Course for Women (Non-Technical)]:- Umarried/Issueless Widows/Issuless Divorcees aged between 18 and 22 years of age are eligible to apply. 
Please note that the date of birth recorded in the Matriculation/ Higher Secondary School Passing Certificate will be concerned as final. 
 
Educational Qualification:- 
 
  • For IMA and Officer's Training Academy:- Degree from a recognized university or equivalent. 
  • For Indian Naval Academy :- Engineering Degree from a recognized university or institution. 
  • For AirForce Academy:- Degree from a recognized university (with Physics and Chemistry as subjects in 10+2) or Bachelor of Engineering. 
 
Students studying in the final year of degree course and are yet to pass the final degree examination are eligible to apply for CDS 2015. 
 
However they are required to submit the proof of passing degree examination to the respective headquarters of the service which they intend to apply for.

CDS Registration / Application Form

CDS 2017 Registration/Application Form:-
 
 
Combined Defence Services Examination (II) 2017:-
 
 
Apply online at website:- https://upsconline.nic.in from 09-08-2017 to 08-09-2017 2017 till 6:00 PM.
 
Candidates will be required to complete the Online Application form containing two stages viz. Part I and Part II as per the instructions available in the above mentioned site through drop down menu.
 
Candidates (excepting Female/SC/ST candidates who are exempted from payment of fee) are required to pay a fee of Rs. 200/- (Rupees Two Hundred Only) either by depositing the money in any Branch of SBI by cash, or by using net banking facility of SBI, State Bank of Bikaner & Jaipur/State Bank of Hyderabad/State Bank of Mysore/State Bank of Patiala/State Bank of Travancore or by using Visa/Master Credit/Debit Card. 
 
Before start filling up Online Application, a candidate must have his photograph and signature duly scanned in the .jpg format in such a manner that each file should not exceed 40 KB and must not be less than 3 KB in size for the photograph and 1 KB for the signature.

CDS Exams are conducted twice a year i.e. in the month of February and November and the notification for the exam is usually released in the months of October and June respectively.
