In recent few years, design engineering has emerged as one of the most flourishing professions across the world; be it in automobile, construction, aviation, Visual communication or animation. Today, India is tagged among the fastest emerging countries. The reason behind this is mushrooming of private firms in each sector, ranging from telecommunication to automobile to infrastructure. To make India a super power nation, all these sectors strive hard and continuously hunt for best skilled manpower. In order to bridge the gap for this demand, Ministry of HRD introduced CEED (Common Entrance Exam of Design) that serves as a common aptitude test for those students who wish to get admission to post graduate course of Master in Design in the IITs, and be a part of the process.
CEED is a qualifying examination for the following postgraduate programmes in design:
Master of Design Programmes
IISc Bangalore - M.Des. in Product Design and Engineering
IIT Bombay - M.Des. in (i) Industrial Design, (ii) Visual Communication, (iii) Animation, (iv) Interaction Design, (v) Mobility and Vehicle Design.
IIT Delhi: M.Des. in Industrial Design
IIT Guwahati: M.Des. in Design
IIT Kanpur: M.Des. in Industrial Design
GATE qualified candidates will also be considered for admission to these programmes.
(b) Ph.D Programmes in Design (IISc Bangalore, IIT Bombay)
(i) Bachelor's degree in Engineering / Architecture / Design/ Interior Design or equivalent (4 years duration after 10+2)
(ii) Pro fessional Diploma in Design (NID/CEPT or equivalent of 4 years duration after 10+2)
(iii) B.F.A. (4 year professional programme, after 10+2)
(iv) G.D. Art (5 year programme after 10th) with one year post qualification, professional experience
(v) Master’s degree in Arts / Science / Computer Applications (2 year programme after 10+2+3)

Application Fee:- The non-refundable appl ication fee is Rs. 2000 for men of general and OBC category, and Rs. 1000 for SC/ST category, physically disabled (PD), and all women candidates.
Examination Centres:- Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kanpur, Kolkata, Mumbai and Thiruvananthapuram.

CEED Exam Dates
Date of Exam:- Sunday, 1st December 2013 (09:00 to 12:00 hrs)
The examination will consist of two parts, A and B. All candidates have to appear for both parts. Part A contains only multiple choice type questions, and will be conducted from 09 :00 hrs to 10:00 hrs. Part B will start after that and will be held from 10:00 hrs to 12:00 hrs. Part B contains design and hand drawing type questions.
Part A is a screening test
Part B will be evaluated only for candidates who will be short listed in the screening test. Only Part B score will be used for the merit list and qualified list for CEED 2014.
CEED is held at national level, hence it is one the important and toughest entrance exams conducted for admission to post graduate course of design engineering. Cracking an entrance exam has never been easier but planning and implementing makes each section strong. Hone your drawing, imagination and innovation skills. Try to get new innovation in future designs. Candidates are advised to carry out mock test before examination.
