NID DAT

Conducted by National Institute of Design, DAT is Design Aptitude Test that is held specially to determine the design abilities of aspirants. NID 2016 serves as an entry pass into the field of design sector, which is tagged among the most flourishing fields. Every year, hundreds of aspirants appear for NID DAT test to make their dream come true of being a designer; be it in Industrial, Communication, IT, Textile or Integrated design. The exam is conducted in Ahmadabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai and Nagpur.

Candidates upto 20 years of age on or before 30 June 2017 are eligible to apply (relaxable by three years for candidates belonging to reserved category).
 
Indian nationals applying in the general category and candidates in overseas category born on or before 30 June 1997 are not eligible.
 
Indian nationals in reserved category (OBC-NCL, SC, ST & PwD) born on or before 30 June 1994 are not eligible.
 
Educational Qualification:
 
Applications for academic year 2017–18 are open to applicants who have passed or will appear for higher secondary (10+2) qualifying examinations in the academic year 2016–17 from any recognised board of education such as CBSE, IB, ICSE or their equivalent.
 
Master of Design (M.Des.):-

Bachelor’s degree in any discipline under the 10+2+4 (or more) system, from any university or institute recognised by law in India.
 
Diploma in design under the 10+2+4 system, from any university or institute recognised by law in India.
 
OR
 
Applicants must either have appeared for (results awaited) or passed, before July 2016, a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline under the 10+2+3 system from any university or institute recognised by law in India.

Upload a scanned photograph as per the instructions. All photographs must be in JPG format and under 100 KB in size. It must be a coloured photograph taken at a professional studio. Photographs taken via mobile phone and other kinds of self-composed portraits will not be accepted.
 
Upload your scanned signature as per the instructions. All signature files must be in JPG format and under 100 KB in size. You should have your signature digitally photographed or scanned and cropped to the required size.
 
Candidates applying under the SC and ST categories are required to upload their Caste Certificate issued by a competent authority. The certificate must be in JPG format and under 150 KB in size.
 
Candidates applying under the Persons with Disability (PwD) category are required to upload their Disability Certificate issued by a competent medical authority as per the guidelines of the Government of India. The certificate must be in JPG format and under 150 KB in size.
 
Candidates applying under the Overseas category are required to upload the first and last page of their passport, clearly showing all of their personal information. The document must be in JPG format and under 150 KB in size.

DAT Mains for B.Des. and GDPD in Ahmedabad - Monday, 15 May to Saturday, 20 May 2017.
 
 
The DAT Prelims will be conducted in the following cities in India:

NID Admission

NID DAT Syllabus

NID DAT 2017 Syllabus:-

NID DAT 2017 exam doesn’t have any set syllabus. Question will be asked on basics topics such as Communication Skills, Composition, Creativity, Drawing Skills, General Mental Ability, and Sensitivity to Environment and Subjects of Design. 

 

Paper Pattern

NID 2017 DAT Pattern:-

The Design Aptitude Tests will be conducted in two stages:
 
Stage 1: Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Prelims
 
Stage 2: Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Mains
 
The Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Prelims primarily evaluates each candidate on the following abilities:
 
Knowledge
Comprehension
Analysis
Creativity
Visualisation
 
The DAT Prelims consists of two parts: 
 
Part I: Multiple-choice questions marked out of 70 points. This part has questions with one or more than one correct answer. The responses of this part will be recorded on an OMR sheet and evaluated digitally. 
 
Part II: Subjective questions marked out of 30 points, with responses to be provided in visual and/or written formats. 
 
The Design Aptitude Test (Prelims) consists of an examination for three hours duration and will be marked out of 100 points. 
 
This is a pen-and-paper test conducted at the same time on the same day across all test centres.
 
The question paper is in English. 
 
All questions are compulsory. 
 
There is no negative marking. 
 
Based on the DAT Prelims scores, separate merit lists shall be prepared for each category  (OPEN, OBC-NCL, SC, ST & PwD). Shortlisted candidates only will be eligible to appear for  the DAT Mains exam.
 
 
Design Aptitude Test (Mains):
 
Based on the scores obtained in the DAT Prelims, eligible candidates will have to appear  for the DAT Mains.
 
DAT Mains for M.Des.:
 
The DAT Mains for this programme consists of two parts: 
 
Studio Test:
 
This may consist of tests in different formats such as drawing/sketching, hands-on model  making, group discussions etc. This test will be marked out of 100 points and will be  conducted in English. 
 
Interviews:
 
The interviews will be conducted separately for each discipline, immediately after the  Studio Test,at the same centre. 
 
DAT Mains for B.Des.and GDPD:
 
The DAT Mains for these programmes may consist of tests in different formats such as drawing/sketching, hands-on model making, group discussions, presentations etc. These  will be marked out of 100 points and will be conducted in English. The test centre will be  NID Ahmedabad. In order to be considered for the merit list, a candidate must have appeared for all the  tests in both the DAT Prelims and the DAT Mains. 

NID DAT Preparation

NID 2017 Preparation:-

The institute has limited number of seats for under graduate and post graduate programmes thus only those candidates who score highest marks will be considered for the next round of selection. The most essential thing that candidate should know about is its pattern, which can be searched by surfing popular sites through internet. It is advisable to students that they should hone their drawing skill as it will be of great help during the course. Students can also solve previous years’ papers that can be obtained from the internet.
