Conducted by National Institute of Design, DAT is Design Aptitude Test that is held specially to determine the design abilities of aspirants. NID 2015 serves as an entry pass into the field of design sector, which is tagged among the most flourishing fields. Every year, hundreds of aspirants appear for NID DAT test to make their dream come true of being a designer; be it in Industrial, Communication, IT, Textile or Integrated design. The exam is conducted in Ahmadabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai and Nagpur. 

 
National Institute of Design offers two kind of courses, namely: 
 
01. Bachelor of Design (B.Des.):-
 
The BACHELOR OF DESIGN programme starts with a two semester rigourious foundation programme followed by three years of specialized studies in any one of the following disciplines offered in B.DES by NID.

  • Product Design: 15 seats
  • Furniture Design:10 seats
  • Ceramic & Glass Design:10 seats
 
COMMUNICATION DESIGN
  • Graphic Design:15 seats
  • Animation Film Design: 15 seats
  • Film & Video Communication: 10 seats
  • Exhibition(Spatial) Design: 10 seats
 
TEXTILE, APPAREL & LIFESTYLE ACCESSORY DESIGN
  • Textile Design:15 seats
  • Total No Seats: 100 seats

Eligibility for Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) in NID:- 
 
•Admission is open to students who have passed or who will appear for qualifying examinations under the Higher Secondary (10+2) or equivalents like AISSCE/ IB/ ISC during the academic year 2014-15.Successful candidates shall be given admission to the academic programme, by the institute, subject to their passing the qualifying examinations.
• Upper Age limit for candidates is 20 years as on June 01, 2015.
• For General category candidates:- Candidates born after June 01, 1995 are not eligible to apply. 
• For Reserved category candidates:- The candidates born before 1st June, 1992 are not eligible.
 
Allotment of the discipline of choice at the end of Foundation year is NOT guaranteed. 
 
Eligibility for Master of Design (M.Des.):- 
 
(PROJECTED NUMBER OF SEATS IN M.Des.: 275 (Includes reserved categories)
 
Candidates having a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent including those who will be appearing for the qualifying examinations during the academic year (2014-15) in the areas mentioned above in each discipline are eligible to apply. Successful candidates shall be given admission to the academic programme, by the institute, subject to their passing the qualifying examinations.

For General Category/OBC (Non Creamy Layer) Category: -

The completed application forms may be posted to NID/handed over physically with self attested supporting documents and Demand Draft of Rs. 1,500/- drawn on any Nationalized bank in favour of ‘National Institute of Design’ payable at Ahmedabad. Do not forget to mention your name and address at the back side of the demand draft.

OBC (Other Backward Class) candidates are required to submit non-creamy layer certificate from Collectorate. The OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) Certificate should be submitted in the format given on NID website. Other formats will not be accepted. The certificate should be issued after March 31, 2014. Failing to submit the certificate as given here, the application form will be rejected.

Incomplete or incorrectly filled application forms / forms not satisfying eligibility criteria / forms without required fees will be rejected.

All reserved category candidates [SC/ST/PH/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)] should submit their Caste/Category certificate alongwith application form only. Caste/Category certificates sent later will not be accepted.

For SC/ST/PH Categories:-

The application form may be downloaded from NID website www.admissions.nid.edu. The completed application forms may be posted to NID/handed over physically with supporting documents and Demand Draft of Rs. 750/- drawn on any Nationalized bank in favour of ‘National Institute of Design’ payable at Ahmedabad. Do not forget to mention your name and address at the back side of the demand draft.

The applicant should also send in a self attested copy of the relevant reserved category (SC/ST/PH/OBC-Non Creamy Layer) certificate from competent authority.

Attested copies of Caste/Category Certificates required from SC/ST/PH Category Candidates:

SC/ST category candidates must attach relevant certificates of Caste/ Category from the District Collectorate as per the Government of India rules/ format, otherwise the application form will be rejected.

List of documents to be enclosed with B.Des. application form:-

    B.Des. Hall Ticket (both copies) duly filled in with recent passport size photographs.
   Self attested copies of SSC & HSC marksheets (those who are studying presently in HSC, must submit bonafide certificate from the school/ college).
   Self attested copy of relevant certificate indicating Date of Birth (Upper age limit as on 1st June, 2015 is 20 years for General category– Relaxable by 3 years for Reserved categories).
    For General Category: The candidates born before 1st June, 1995 are not eligible.
    For Reserved Categories: The candidates born before 1st June, 1992 are not eligible

  Self attested copy of relevant Caste/Category certificate issued by competent authority for SC/ST/PH/OBC non-creamy layer candidates wherever applicable.

List of documents to be enclosed with M.Des. Application form:-

    M.Des. Hall Ticket (both copies) duly filled in with recent passport size photographs.
    Self attested copies of marksheets of SSC, HSC, completed years of Graduation and Degree certificate / Provisional certificate / Passing certificate (those who are studying presently in final year of graduation must submit bonafide certificate from the college).
   Self attested copy of relevant certificate indicating Date of Birth (Upper age limit as on 1st June, 2015 is 30 years for General category– Relaxable by 3 years for Reserved categories).
    For General Category: The candidates born before 1st June, 1985 are not eligible.
    For Reserved Categories: The candidates born before 1st June, 1982 are not eligible.

   Self attested copy of relevant Caste/Category certificate issued by competent authority for SC/ST/PH/OBC non-creamy layer candidates wherever applicable.

NID DAT Syllabus

NID DAT 2015 Syllabus:-

NID DAT 2015 exam doesn’t have any set syllabus. Question will be asked on basics topics such as Communication Skills, Composition, Creativity, Drawing Skills, General Mental Ability, and Sensitivity to Environment and Subjects of Design. 

 


Paper Pattern

NID DAT 2015 Pattern:-

NID DAT 2015 comprises of three papers, each of 60 marks. The exam tests the students’ capabilities in creativity and various domains that include Visual Design, Subjects of Design, Thematic Color Arrangement, Environment Sensitivity, Memory Drawing, Proportions & Perspective, General Mental Ability, Drawing Skills, Animation and Abstract Symbolism. 

 


NID DAT Preparation

NID DAT 2015 Preparation:-

The institute has limited number of seats for under graduate and post graduate programmes thus only those candidates who score highest marks will be considered for the next round of selection. The most essential thing that candidate should know about is its pattern, which can be searched by surfing popular sites through internet. It is advisable to students that they should hone their drawing skill as it will be of great help during the course. Students can also solve previous years’ papers that can be obtained from the internet.
