Undoubtedly, Indian Railways is one of the important sections of the Indian Government, known for generating plethora of employment opportunities every year in its various departments. Every year, lakhs of students appear for RRB (Railway Recruitment Board) exam for getting railway jobs in India. In the year 2012, till now the board has recruited over 75,000 unemployed people through recruitment process. The coming year i.e. 2013 too going witness some more filling of vacancies in Indian Railways. Of all those vacancies available with the Railway, Special Class Railway Apprentices in Mechanical Department is the one that will have some more employees in it.
Candidates, who want jobs in Mechanical Engineering Department in Railway, will be selected on the base of SCRA exam’s score. Since SCRA is a very big department of Indian Railway Recruitment Board thus employees under it are appointed through SCRA exam. The exam is held every year under the supervision of Union Public Service Commission. The exam serves as an entry pass for those students aspiring for admission to under graduate programme in Mechanical Engineering at the Indian Railways Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering in Jamalpur. It’s is one of the oldest and reputed technical institutes.
After the completion of four years apprentice course, candidates are recruited at higher position in Indian Railway, perchance, Group A officers.
SCRA Registration / Application Form
Candidates, who will be appearing for SCRA 2013 exam, can obtain the application form from the official website of UPSC.
The online application form comprises of two stages i.e. Part I and Part II. Candidates are required to complete the forms according to the instructions mentioned in the site through drop down menus.
The candidates are required to pay a sum of Rs.100 either by depositing the money in any branch SBI by cash, or by using net banking facility of State Bank of India, State Bank of Bikaner & Jaipur / State Bank of Hyderabad / State Bank of Mysore/State Bank of Patiala/State Bank of Travancore or by using any Visa/Master Credit/Debit Card. (SC, ST, female students and physically handicapped students are exempted from payment of fee.)
Before filling the online application form, candidate should make sure that he/she has his/her latest photo and signature duly scanned in the jpg format.

SCRA Sample Papers
SCRA is a written exam that comprises of three papers; Paper I tests English proficiency, General Knowledge and Psychological Test, Paper II includes subjects like Physics and Chemistry and Paper III is based on Mathematics. Eduvidya provides you syllabus for each subject.
General Knowledge: - The questions for this subject will be asked on general awareness and current affairs. The standard of answers to questions should be as expected of students of standard 12 or equivalent. Some of the important topics are Man & Environment, Evolution of Life, Plants & Animals, Solar System & the Earth, History, Politics & Society in India, Constitution of India and its feature, Money and Taxation Price.
Psychological test: - The test will judge the basic intelligence and mechanical aptitude of the students.
Physics: - Length measurements using venier , screw gauge and optical lever, Measurements of time and Mass, Newton’s Law of Motion, Moment of a Force, Newton’s LAW OF Gravitation, Principle of Archimedes, Wave Motion , Reflection and Refraction of Light, Electric Charge, Electric Field, Coulomb’s Law, Ohm’s Law, Magnetic effect of Current, Chemical effects of Current, Electromagnetic Induction, Cathode Rays, Discovery of the electron and many more.

Inorganic Chemistry: - Hydrogen, Group I elements, Group II elements, Group III elements, Group IV elements, Group V elements, Group VI elements, Group VII elements, Group O and Metallurgical Process.
Organic Chemistry:- Tetrahedral Nature of Carbon, General methods of preparation, properties and reaction of alkanes, alkenes and alkynes, Halogen derivatives, Hydroxy Compounds, Ethers, Aldehydes and ketones, Nitro compounds amines, Carboxylic acid, Ester, Polymers and Nonstructural treatment of Carbohydrates, Fats and Lipids, amino acids and proteins.
Mathematics:- Algebra, Trigonometry, Analytic Geometry (two dimensions), Differential Calculus, Integral Calculus & Different equations, Vectors & its application, Statistics & Probability.
The exam will have three papers as mentioned above. Each paper will be of 200 marks, which means the exam will carry of total 600 marks. The papers in all the subjects will consist of Objective (multiple choice answers) Type questions only. The Question Papers (Test Booklets) will be set in English only.
SCRA is not an easy exam but at same time it’s not too hard to crack. One of the important tips to crack SCRA exam is to make sure that you have the best study materials that cover the entire portion for the exam. This is the high time to hunt for the most relevant study materials. Try to keep touch with the basics that have been taught at 10+2 level. It is advisable to students to read newspapers, magazines and national journals as these sources will be of great help for General Knowledge Test. For Mathematics paper, candidates can practice problems from 12th textbooks. For the General English Paper, candidates can practice and revise the basic rules of English grammar and vocabulary, from any standard grammar/Civil Services examination handbook.
