What is the news?
The first CAT 2015 test will be held on Sunday, November 16, 2014 and before that it is important that you get to know the CAT 2014 scoring pattern that will be used in this year's exam. Untill now the IIM's have never published the scoring and equating process for Common Admission Test (CAT). However, with the intention of ensuring fairness and equity in the comparison of CAT candidate test scores across different test sessions the process of normalization has been introduced.
Normalization of scores in CAT 2015:
The process of  normalization of scores in CAT 2014 will be implemented to adjust the location and scale differences of score distributions across different forms and the scaled scores obtained by this process shall be converted into percentiles for purposes of shortlisting.  The process of normalization is an established practise for comparing test aspirant scores across multiple formats and is similar to the one adopted in other large educational tests in India such as the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
The official Notification for CAT 2014 Scoring Pattern and Equating process also states that for the purpose of reporting, Scaled Scores for each Section (Section I: Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation, Section II: Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning) and total along with the percentile shall also be published.
