    Engineering is one of the most sought after professional career options after 12th for many students in India. Every year thousands of 10+2 pass out students try their luck to get admission in the best of institutes. The sheer number of students is overwhelming. So in order to get best of the bunch various institutes across India have deployed their own entrance exams in India for engineering. We look into the list of engineering entrance exams in India 2016 which are popular:

    1. JEE Main: This exam is for admission to engineering as well as architecture undergraduate courses.

    JEE Main Exam Format: The exam question paper consists of objective type questions based on Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics for engineering courses. For architecture course, the students are tested in Aptitude, Mathematics and Drawing skills. The duration of exam is three hours.

    2. JEE Advanced: This exam is conducted for admission into undergraduate engineering courses in IITs. The top 1 lac 20 thousand students who have cleared the JEE Main exam are eligible for this exam.

    JEE Advanced Exam Format: The exam consists of two papers. Each paper consists of objective type questions. Its duration is 3 hours. These questions are based on Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics subjects.

    3. GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering): It is another popular engineering entrance exam among the graduate engineers. This exam is conducted for admissions to postgraduate engineering courses. The successful students can get admission to IITs as well as Indian Institute of Science.  

    GATE Exam Format: The GATE exam paper consists of multiple choice questions. It tests the students numerical as well as aptitude capability.

    These three are the most popular engineering entrance exams in India. In addition to these, there are other entrance exams too
    which offer a gateway to other engineering colleges in India such as:- MH-CET, VITEEE, EAMCET and BITSAT.
