Maulana Azad Medical College in Delhi is one of the leading governmental colleges in the country that comes to mind the moment a student wishes to pursue medical education. With a modest beginning in the year 1958 in the hospital block of Irwin Lok Nayak Hospital, the college has grown into a vigorous center for health care education. Maulana Azad Medical College is attached to three hospitals in the complex that includes Lok Nayak Hospital, Guru Nanak Eye Center and Govind Vallabh Pant hospital. It is affiliated to the University of Delhi.
The college established its dental wing in the year 1983. It provides excellent quality education in different branches of medical sciences. It offers five and a half years full time degree program of MBBS. The course is divided into three phases and nine semesters. The institute also stresses on BDS degree through its Dental Surgery program, which is a five years full time course. It also imparts three years full time program of MD in thirteen different disciplines.
COMPULSORY HINDI TEST
All students are required to pass an examination in Hindi at the end of the first or second year of MBBS/ BDS Course if he/she has not passed Hindi at the VlII standard (Minimum), unless he/she has been exempted by the Delhi University. Adequate arrangements for preparing the students for this examination are available at the Institution.
40 students are admitted annually. The distribution of seats is as follows:
15% of total seats i.e. 6 seats are filled in through the entrance examination conducted by the CBSE on All India basis.
15% of total seats i.e 6 seats are reserved for Scheduled Castes and 7½% i.e. 4 seats are reserved for Scheduled Tribes.
24 seats are filled on merit basis through DPMT entrance test conducted by Delhi University.
Maulana Azad Medical College is located at Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg in New Delhi. The college has an amazing collection of books on literatures. The college is one of the few medical institutes in India that offers number of courses related to the field of medicine and health care. Keeping this thing in mind, the college has built a separate laboratory for each and every branch of medical sciences. It has highly furnished lecture halls. The central library has a huge collection of medical journals, books, reference sources and pamphlets. The institute also offers a separate hostel facility for boys and girls.
