Topiwala National Medical College formerly National Medical College was established in the year 1921 under the aegis of Mr. M.N. Desai Topiwala. The most striking feature of the college is that it is the first hospital, which was made by Indians under the British period. In the year 1946, it was handed over to the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM). Since then, the college has been on the path of success for its world class pedagogy in the field of medicine.
Today, the college is known for its big staff members that include 250 senior teachers and 400 residential doctors. It provides training courses in more than 25 medical and allied branches, including 9 super specialty courses. It is one of the best medical institutes for those students who aspire to become a doctor in their future. Every year, the college accepts 120 students for MBBS program, which is a four and a half years degree course. Other courses are Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (B.O.Th), Bachelor of Audiology Speech Language Pathology and three years full time diploma in Nursing.

The Selection of the Candidates is done on the basis of Entrance Exam which is conducted by the College.

The college is located in the commercial capital of India i.e. Mumbai. The campus has been accorded with modern infrastructure facilities. Behind the college, there is 1800 bed BYL Nair Charitable Hospital. Topiwala National Medical College is attached to the Nair Hospital, which is a multi specialty tertiary care hospital offered by the MCGM. There is a big library that hosts a collection of books on medical and Para medical course. The institute also offers a separate hostel facility for boys and girls.
