Think of M.Sc entrance exams in India and the one first names that comes to mind is that of NEST. The National Entrance Screening Test is a compulsory test for admission to the 5- year Integrated MSc programme in basic sciences - Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics - at National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar and University of Mumbai - Department of Atomic Energy Center for Excellence in Basic Sciences (UM-DAE CBS), Mumbai. Candidates with a minimum aggregate of 60 percent marks in their class 12 exams are eligible to apply for NEST.
NEST 2020 Eligibility:-
Candidates must qualify all four eligibility criteria listed below -
Candidates in General and OBC category should be born on or after August 01, 2000. The age limit is relaxed by 5 years for SC/ ST/ Divyangjan candidates.
Class XII qualifying examination should be passed in either 2018 or 2019. Candidates appearing in 2020 are also eligible. (Where only Letter Grade is given by the Board, a certificate from the Board specifying equivalent percentage marks will be required. In the absence of such a certificate the decision of the respective Admission Committees will be final.)
At least 60% marks in aggregate (or equivalent grade) in Class XII (or equivalent) examination from any recognized Board in India. For Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) candidates and for Divyangjan candidates, the minimum requirement is 55%.
Candidate should secure a position in the NEST merit list.

NEST 2020 Syllabus:-
The syllabus for NEST 2020 primarily follows the NCERT/ CBSE science syllabus of class XI-XII. The detailed syllabus for NEST examination is provided separately. There is, however, no specific syllabus for the general section of the exam. This section tests candidate's familiarity with, but not detailed understanding of, major historical milestones in subjects like astronomy, biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics, computer science and environmental science. Questions are designed to test analytic abilities and comprehension of scientific passages. Some of the questions in this section may require knowledge of class X mathematics.

NEST 2020 Paper Pattern:-
Mode - Computer Based Test (CBT)
The question paper will consist of 5 (five) sections of objective (MCQ) type questions. Section 1 is the general section and of 30 marks. There will be no negative marking in the general section. Sections 2 through 5 are of 50 marks each and will contain subject specific questions from Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics.
Planning and dedication are the keys to do well. First all plan a timetable for study keeping in mind your strengths and weaknesses. Allocate sufficient time for study, revision and solving of sample papers. Sample papers are an important component of NEST preparation. They not only prepare you for the exam but also help you to assess your preparation. Most of all do not worry and stick to the basics always.
