Kendriya Vidyalaya No.2, AFS, Tambaram was established in the year 1983. There are four Sections upto Class-X and two sections for Science in Class-XI & XII, One Section for Commerce stream in Class-XI & XII. Current strength of Vidyalaya is about 2000.
Vidyalaya is affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi and aims to develop the spirit of national integration and create a sense of "Indianness" among children.

Applications are issued between February and March for new admissions in the school office.

The Vidyalaya has well equipped and well maintain computer labs 2 for secondary and 1 for primary with broad band network, 2 Audio visual rooms with 3 LCD projectors, well equipped Library with latest additions, 6 different well equipped Labs out of which 3 are for Physics, Chemistry and Biology and remaining 2 for Computers a make-shift Bio-tech lab.
